Additionally, the USPS is the only constitutionally mandated service of the federal government and is also the most valuable and necessary thing the feds do. All the post office bashing is just a distraction from the utter malfeasance of the rest of the federal government. In fact, the rest of the federal government is in MUCH, MUCH worse shape because all their pensions are unfunded. I just sent a v2000 deflection and HV to WA via Ground, which went out on Friday, and got there Monday, for $14.Ĭlick to expand. Most people don't know that USPS is the only agency associated with the federal government whose pension program is fully funded. However I've also been finding they haven't been taking any longer than Priority. I've also noticed that the Shipstation has been giving MUCH lower quotes for USPS Ground lately (like since the first of the year.) Not sure why, but boxes that normally cost me 20 bucks (to go from NH to CA or WA) can go for $14 or so via Ground. And 24x14x4" is the biggest practical size that fits most game boards, while still staying under a cubic foot. Above that, the price approximately doubles. They key to USPS is to keep the total volume under 1 cubic foot (i.e., L x W x H < 1728"). (It's around $10-12 east of the Mississippi, and around $20 to the West Coast.) With the discount it usually comes to under 20 bucks for Priority, for most destinations. I can send a game board with more padding than a USPS box, for less. (It varies depending on the destination, sometimes it more, sometimes less, but it's always at least a couple of bucks). I've since switched to buying 24x14x4" cardboard boxes from ebay, and I use Paypal's shipping site (which is now Shipstation, but it's still free), which gets you a 10-20% discount over. I used to use the Board Game boxes, but they really aren't great for game boards, as they don't allow for that much padding.
